Fitness Hashtag Tips

Now you’ve got a list of hashtags to try out, we’ve got a few tips and tricks to help you use them effectively in your posts. Here’s three tips to help you be a social media pro, as well as a fitness one.

Finding (Even More) Relevant Hashtags

Finding relevant hashtags for your fitness posts on Instagram is pretty straightforward because you can search directly in the app.

If you start typing in any of your go-to hashtags, Instagram will make additional suggestions based on what you've typed. You can also get ideas from what the influencers and brands you admire on social media are using.

While Instagram will promote related hashtags,it doesn't make much data available. TikTok, on the other hand, shares a lot more information around popular hashtags, which can help you choose effective ones for your posts. They have atrend discovery page for businesses, so you can see how hashtags change in popularity over time. You can, for example, see how use of the hashtag#GymMotivation has shifted over the last 120 days. You can also change the time frame, from 7 days up to three years.

Like Instagram, TikTok will also help you find relevant hashtags within the app. To start, open up TikTok, type in a hashtag related to your post, and the platform will suggest other relevant hashtags for you to explore.

Formatting Hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to draw attention to your content, but if they’re not formatted correctly, they can be difficult to read. Capitalizing the first letter of words in a hashtag (like #SweatItOut) makes it easy to read.

It also means that your hashtags will work on screenreader technology, making themaccessible for everyone, including users who are blind or have low vision. This is how we've formatted the hashtags in our list, so everyone can understand them.

Number of Hashtags

There's a lot of debate about how many hashtags is too many. Too few, and you won't get the reach or engagement you're hoping for. Too many, and your posts could look spammy. So what's the ideal number?

You can add up to 30 hashtags on Instagram, butit recommends using 3 to 5 per post. Of course, you can always experiment with more hashtags and see what works best for you.

TikTok doesn't set a limit, but it has a character count for captions (including hashtags). You could try using a similar number of hashtags as on Instagram, and experiment to see if using more helps build your audience.
